On 28 March, the EMCDDA will welcome a delegation from Europol, headed by Executive Director Catherine De Bolle.

During the visit, the two agencies will explore new ways of cooperation in the light of their revised mandates.

Europol’s new mandate entered into force on 28 June 2022, with the aim of strengthening its capacity to better support the EU Member States in combating serious and organised crime and terrorism.

The EU institutions are currently negotiating a new regulation for the EMCDDA which will transform it into the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA) in 2024. The new agency, with a broadened mandate, will be better equipped to strengthen the EU’s preparedness related to illicit drugs.

During the meeting, Europol will present its new strategy and the latest developments on threats observed at EU ports. The EMCDDA will report on the latest fentanyl-related trends. Also to be discussed will be the agencies’ joint reporting projects, such as the EU Drug Markets: In-depth analysis.
